Award winning Bur Bur and Friends™ children’s book series noted by the School Library Journal
Amy Bowllan, a writer of the famous Bowllans Blog for the School Library Jounal, conducts an interview with JoAnne Pastel and Kakie Fitzsimmons, co-founders of Farmer’s Hat Productions. Pastel and Fitzsimmons are also co-authors of award the winning children’s book series, Bur Bur and Friends. The book series uses a group of multicultural characters who introduce young kids to sports and outdoor exploration through a first time experience of some kind. Bur Bur and Friends held their national product launch in July at the Mall of America. The books recently became an iparenting Media Award winner under the category of “Greatest Products of 2007.”
Amy Bowllan began her career as a Television Investigative Producer and Reporter for WCBS-TV NY and KNXV in Phoenix, AZ. She also snagged two Emmy awards for Broadcast Journalism and several Associated Press awards. She now is the Director of Communications and Educational Technology at The Hewitt School in NYC and is responsible for integrating technological resources into staff and students day to day programs.
The School Library Journal is the worlds largest reviewer of books, multimedia, and technology for children and teenagers.

A.B. While I receive many books from publishers, your packaging really caught my attention. Whose idea was it to include the hay? We knew we wanted to present these books in a way that would grab the recipient’s attention.
We chose to use a black box to stand out from the white and cardboard color boxes [another cool idea] that most people send out. We also chose the “hay” because it seemed to perfectly fill our box and add a fun, kid like feel to the presentation. We have had many positive comments about the presentation of the media kits!
