Barack Obama: A Profound Moment in History Opens Possibilities for All

Barack Obama meets with representatives of Farmer’s Hat Productions

By Kakie Fitzsimmons

We elected Barack Obama to be the 44th President of the United States of America. Seeing all of this happen at this level in such a public way makes it real for many people who thought they would never see this day.

The crowd at Grant Park was a rainbow of colors which made it more beautiful. Barack has this amazing ability to pull people in and during his acceptance speech, he spoke to all people around the world. It was eloquent, delivered with dignity, integrity and grace.

“For children in this country, it means more than they can get their arms around because at 5 or 7 or 8 years old they are too young to understand. It sends a message that says they can be anything they want, regardess of class, creed, gender and race. ”
-JoAnne Pastel, President and Founder of Farmer’s Hat Productions.

This is the essence of why we created the Bur Bur and Friends children’s book series. We wanted to repesent a cast of multicultural characters that were inclusive because we believe it is important for all children to see. Kids should have books that show characters who look like themselves and their friends.

So does Barack, he told us in a letter he wrote thanking us for giving him the series for his own family to enjoy.

Let us not forget that this win is the result of many who have gone before us and who fought for the privilege to see this day in history. Today, we honor them.
