JoAnne Pastel and Kakie Fitzsimmons are facilitating a featured break out session called: Following your Passion Around Education and Childhood Literacy at The 17th Annual Hubbs Children’s Literature Conference on February 28th. The conference is an annual event hosted by the University of St. Thomas and is for teachers, librarians, parents and anyone interested in quality children’s literature.

Pastel and Fitzsimmons are authors of the award winning Bur Bur and Friends children’s books series. They followed their dreams after discovering an unfulfilled niche in the market. Bur Bur and Friends is a cast of multicultural characters who educate kids about sports and outdoor exploration through their experiences. Pastel and Fitzsimmons launched their brand at the Mall of America in 2007 and have received national media attention for this concept. In this session, they will share information about their journey and how following their passion led to success. Their books have won coveted awards that include the Teacher’s Choice Award for the Family, iParenting Media and Mom’s Choice Awards.
