Bur Bur and Friends: Dads as Life Coaches, a Fathers Day Gift

Monday, July 20th, 2009

"If your dad is in your life, reach out and tell him you appreciate him. If you never knew your Dad, honor the men (Uncles, Grandpas, Big Brothers, Mentors, Coaches) in your life that have made a difference for you." -Mark Joyella By Mark Joyella, this post was originally written prior to fathers day in 2009. We enjoyed the read and Mark was kind enough to give us permission to post it here. Newt Gingrich has a new book out just in time for Father’s Day, and this time he’s not talking politics, but life coaching. “Five Principles for a Successful Life” delves not into Gingrich’s time as Speaker of the House, but rather into his ongoing role as coach to his daughter and grandkids. Magnet word poetry pulls a family together

Wednesday, July 8th, 2009

By Kakie Fitzsimmons

A few weeks back my son and I went to the Stone Arch Bridge Festival for the Arts near downtown Minneapolis. We came across this board and started to work on it. 45 minutes later, here is what we created.

The word magnet poem we constructed as a family at the Stone Arch Bridge Festival 2009 in Minneapolis

I took the picture because it was something we did together and we can use it as our mantra. If I could add one more line it would say “I am always with you.” Obviously there were one or two sets of words we weren’t able to complete, but the irony in life is that sometimes there will be things we can’t finish. That is really okay because we are all imperfect human beings who are flawed in our own a beautiful ways. At the end of the day, it isn’t the things we have, it is the memories we create with those who we love unconditionally.

Do you have a family poem or some special way you celebrate eachother? Please share it below.

If it is hard for you to read, I have the written full text below

Someone told you to quit? So what if you don’t?

Wednesday, July 1st, 2009

The message here will move you. We had situations where we were told to quit. Despite everything, it made us stronger, determined and more successful. When we follow what we are passionate about, the possibilities are endles.

Moral of the story? Don’t let the words of one or two people intimidate or define you. Don’t give up. Never, ever give up. The only person who can tell you who or what you are, is yourself.
