Name Your Best Fourth of July Memory
This morning I was looking at my emails and received the note below from JR Hamilton. JR is a friend of mine who does a great job at creating fun ways to bring kids and parents together, and sometimes we do kid free events too. I wanted to share this because it made me smile and Here is the note I received from JR.
Here’s hoping you all had a great 4th
It is still my second favorite holiday. When I was growing up, it was one of the few days my father wouldn’t work and there was the big family picnic. Wheelbarrow races, watermelon hats (yes, the rhine of the watermelon. Somewhere about 12 that became uncool). Corn on the cob, drinking from the hose, sparklers even before the sun went down cuz we couldn’t wait. And sparklers again after the sun went down because we the kids were indulged. (One of the VERY few times in my childhood). And for me, sitting on the steps of the 5th street house with my sisters and cousins (only adults allowed on the porch) going oooooo aaaaaaa in Ocean City.
It’s probably why one of my lottery winning dreams is to buy that house when I win with the first 5 million. On the years when we go back, it chokes me up when the kids and I sit on the same steps that I did as a child and watch the fireworks.
As a divorced single parent, I wonder what my kids will feel nostalgic about when they’re older. Most traditions go every other year. So I wonder what my kids will create for themselves. I am famous with my kids friends for my pancakes after sleepovers. Kids will ask if I will be making pancakes in the morning before saying yes to a sleepover.
To be honest, they are nothing special, other than the fact that they were served after a late night of fun. Or Chirps! (The kids tilt their heads back and chirp like baby birds til I shoot ready whip in right from the can). What’s yours? Looks like a beautiful day. Enjoy the weather!

We want to wish you all a happy 4th of July from our hearts to yours. May you take some time and celebrate those who fought for our freedom, those who died for it, and those who are fighting as we speak. Please share your memories below.
