September is back to school time and National Literacy Month. We wanted to provide you with some free resources to help in nurturing literacy for the kids in your life:

 Last April, we published a post called: Commentary on Literacy, Raising a Book Lover. And then did another at the beginning of the summer called Make plans to read with your children this Summer. They list great ideas to promote getting kids engaged in reading. We invite you to take a look at it!

Click here to Download a copy of Cultivating Readers Magazine. This 12 page document is parent-friendly and written by the National Center for Family Literacy. It was created with funding from Houghton Mifflin and provides effective and easy strategies for promoting reading throughout a child’s early years.

Click here to Download “When Mom and Dad Go to School”: Elementary schools nationwide are seeking ways to position parents as solid partners in the education of their children. To meet this need, elementary school family literacy programs are providing a powerful approach to involving parents in their children’s education.

 Bur Bur and Friends helps kids cultivate self-esteem by educating them about sports, outdoor exploration and active play. Bur Bur and Friends is a cast of multicultural characters who represent the real world of today and is an award winning children’s book series. Bur Bur and Friends was created by two moms, (JoAnne Pastel and Kakie Fitzsimmons), and are based off of real children, including their own.
