April 22nd will be the 40th anniversary for Earth Day and I am wondering how we, along with our children, can use social media to educate everyone about our planet. This year I have been working as a Marketing and Social Media Chair for an organization called Cleantech Open, a small business incubator and competition for clean and green startup companies in the United States. If you want to follow them on twitter, take a look at @cleantechopen. Participating in this organization has made me more aware of the issues our planet faces. I have had conversations with people and I think the words "cleantech" or "green energy" are misunderstood.Earth day is about more than climate change. It asks questions about how human expansion is affecting the diversity of all living things on our planet. What is happening with farming land, chemicals in the soil, waste reduction, our drinking water, economy, recycling, alternative energy and more. One resource to get information about this is a website called Earth Day 2010 Action Center.

I would like to challenge you to go out and find something on the Earth Day website and share it on a social media platform to help get the word out. Talk to children about what they are learning in school about the earth. Think about what our planet might look like 200 or 300 years from now and what legacy you want to preserve for future generations.
